Graduation Requirements for Graduate and Doctoral Degrees and Certificates
Master Degrees:
To earn a master’s degree from Belhaven University, a candidate must successfully complete all prescribed coursework with a minimum program GPA of 3.0 (B average), have no more than two grades of C, C+, or C- and must repeat any course in which a grade lower than a C- is earned, satisfy departmental requirements, and meet the University’s residence requirement.
Please note that candidates pursuing the Master of Arts in Counseling degree and Graduate Education degrees also have state licensure requirements that are not required for degree completion. Please consult with your department chair to determine the licensure requirements for your state and program. Graduate Certificates and Diplomas:
To earn a graduate certificate of diploma from Belhaven University, a candidate must successfully complete all prescribed coursework with a minimum program GPA of 3.0 (B average), have no more than two grades of C, C+, or C- and must repeat any course in which a grade lower than a C- is earned, satisfy departmental requirements, and meet the University’s residence requirement.
Please note that the Artist’s Diploma in String Instruments may have additional requirements. Please consult with the Chair of the Music Department.
Residence Requirement
Graduate degree requires one academic year, and the last 12 hours should be earned at Belhaven University.
Subsequent Credentials Policy
Students seeking a subsequent (second, third, etc.) credential (Master degree or Graduate Certificate) will be required to complete at least 50% of the requirements of the subsequent credential as unique credits.
Academic Plan
Academic plans for students are available on the Belhaven website. Students must track their academic progress and ensure they register for the correct courses needed for their degree or certificate. While academic advisors are available to help, the final responsibility for meeting degree requirements rests with the student.
Academic Advising
Students will be provided academic advising through the Belhaven Students Services office. Our advisors will assist students with registration and schedule management as they progress toward degree completion.
