Birth of the American Nation: Colonization to 1788 This course is the first in a four-course survey of American history. Beginning with the initial discovery of the Americas by Europeans and their motivations for colonization, this course concludes with the American Revolution. Additional topics covered include the differences between Virginia and Puritan New England, Native American relations, the rise of slavery and transatlantic trade, the consolidation of the British Empire, the First Great Awakening, and the Seven Years War.
