Education/Elementary Non-Licensure, MAT

Once a candidate has taken and passed the following listed MDE required tests for admission to the MAT-Alt/Licensure Program, they may request a degree change to be eligible for the Elementary MS Alternate Route Teacher Endorsement Degree Program leading to the K-6 Elementary Education Endorsement and the Supplemental K-12 Reading Endorsement.

The following tests are required:

ACT/SAT or PRAXIS CORE, or 3.0 GPA

REA 604 - Advanced Early Literacy I (3 ) *
REA 605 - Advanced Early Literacy II (3 ) *
REA 629 - Literacy Assessment, Diagnosis & Remediation (3 )
REA 617 - Content Area Literacy (3 )
*REA 604 and REA 605 are designed to help prepare candidates to pass the Foundations of Reading Test (FOR) and the Praxis II #5018 Test. Once a candidate has a qualifying score on the ACT/SAT, or Core, or a 3.0 GPA and has passed the PRAXIS II - #5018 Test and has passed the Foundations of Reading Test (FOR), the candidate may then transfer to the MAT ELEMENTARY 4-6 ALTERNATE ROUTE TEACHER LICENSE PROGRAM, which can lead to a K-6 Elementary Teacher Endorsement #120 and a K-12 Reading Endorsement #174.
